DAVAO CITY BRINGS YOU PANAGBENGA, MASSKARA, SINULOG AND DINAGYANG

Imagine yourself attending one of Philippines’ most distinguished festivals.  Perhaps, the first festival to pop out of your mind would be Sinulog Festival, or Masskara Festival.  Other famous festivals would be Dinagyang Festival and Panagbenga Festival.

Well, I was able to attend all FOUR of the PHILIPPINES’ BIGGEST FESTIVALS all in one day! At the 2014 Intramurals of Davao City National High School, the students  culminated their learning from the MAPEH subject through a field demo.
Getting inside the school, I instantly felt like an awe-struck tourist gaping at the colorful artistry of the different costumes inspired by the different cultures of the Philippines.DSC_0530 Students from the Grade 7 , although they were the youngest, had blossomed in their sylvan costumes and dance presentation influenced by the Panagbenga Festival from Baguio City. DSC_0546  PANAGBENGA The Grade 8 students were dauntless as they wowed the crowd with their representation of the MassKara Festival, celebrated at Bacolod.  Who could resist feeling cheerful when seeing such happy faces frolicking despite the heat of the afternoon sun?  DSC_0596DSC_0603DSC_0604The Grade 9 students modeled their dance moves after the Sinulog Festival from Cebu.  I don’t know about the others but I got goosebumps the minute they started.  Hearing the familiar drum beats and riffs, and seeing a dazzling mix of colors from green to pink to blue to purple to red to yellow –  Oh my God it was a hair-raising, breath taking experience.  I don’t think my shots put justice to the beauty of their dance.DSC_0582DSC_0592DSC_0593Viva Sto. Niño!DSC_0583DSC_0588The 4th year students raved with an upbeat performance of the Dinagyang Festival from Iloilo.  I am sure that they will leave a striking legacy that could motivate those that will follow them.DSC_0557DSC_0571DSC_0574They will ‘watch’ after the young ones. DINAGYANG It is hard to fathom how the students and teachers could pull off such an extravagant display of talent and creativity.  Simply brilliant!  At the end of the day, the Grade 9 was proclaimed the champion of the field demo. Congratulations Grade 9! Thank you all students for bequeathing the school a fascinating time.
