PHILIPPINE FLAG MADE OF POLVORON

Patriotism is a thing difficult to put into words. It is neither precisely an emotion nor an opinion, nor a mandate, but it is a state of mind – a reflection of our own personal sense of worth, and respect for our roots. Love of country plays a part, but it’s not merely love. Neither is it pride, although pride too is one of the ingredients.

Love and Pride can be expressed in so many ways.  In our country, for instance, the Filipinos from 1898 had fought for the freedom of the Philippines from conquistadores.   That is why we celebrate every year the Independence Day to give honor and thanksgiving for the momentous day when the country became free.

2014 is the 116th year of freedom for the Philippines.  Over the years, Filipino traditions have changed and maybe even went to extinction.  There are few current Filipinos that simply look at Independence Day as a time to relax or spend time with others.  While that is a good thing, we must not forget to feel proud about our nationality, our being a Filipino.

In malls for instance, we can see the creativity of Filipino pride.   The business, Apo ni Lola, has formed the Philippine flag using their product: Polvoron, a traditional Filipino dessert recipe made of flour, sugar, milk and butter.

22,500 pieces of delicious polvoron in authentic Durian, Langka, and Mangosten flavor were used to create the Philippine flag.

The Philippine flag made of polvoron is currently displayed at SM city of Davao.  It was not only to show the love for the country but also to promote Filipino products. 
The lady from the Apo ni Lola stall was kind enough to give us a free sample of their yema, another traditional Filipino recipe.
